What will I learn?
- The Arabic letters on their own, and their shapes at the start, middle and end of a word
- Short vowels: fatḥah, kasrah and ḍammah
- Madd with alif, wāw and yāʾ
- Sukoon, tanween and shaddah
- Reading words and sentences fluently, then moving to the Mushaf
- Lots of reading and writing drills on every lesson
What is Noor al-Bayan?
Noor al-Bayan is a book for teaching reading and Quran recitation, compiled by Muhammad Hasan Muhammad for nurseries, Quran schools and children who struggle with reading. It is widely used in Egypt and is known for its many drills at each stage.
Noor al-Bayan or the Noorani Qaida?
Both teach reading from zero. Noor al-Bayan has more drills and suits young children and anyone who needs to strengthen their reading; the Noorani Qaida links reading to Tajweed early and reaches the Mushaf faster. Our full comparison is in Arabic.
In what order is Noor al-Bayan taught?
- Single letters and their sounds.
- Short vowels: fatḥah, kasrah, ḍammah.
- Madd letters.
- Tanween.
- Sukoon.
- Shaddah.
- Practice on Quranic words and ayat.
The child repeats each lesson until they can read it without spelling out letters, then moves on.
What happens in a class?
Each class starts by reading the last lesson, then a new Noor al-Bayan lesson, then reading and writing drills while the teacher corrects every letter, and ends with short daily practice.
Every week you get a short written report: what was covered, recurring mistakes, and next week’s goal.
