How much can an adult memorize?

At one page a day, five days a week, the 604 pages of the Madinah Mushaf take about two years and four months; at half a page, about four years and eight months. Most working adults start with four lines to half a page a day and spend more of their time on revision. Our Arabic guide has the full table by daily amount.

Which memorization methods do we use?

Memorization methods and who they suit
Method How it works Suits
Listen first Listen to the passage from a skilled reciter several times Learners who memorize by ear, and those who mispronounce
One Mushaf edition Always memorize from the same printed Mushaf Learners who remember the look of the page
Split and link Split the page into chunks, then link the end of each chunk to the start of the next Everyone
Write it out Write the passage from memory, then check it against the Mushaf Learners who mix up similar words

How do I build a plan around my time?

Example for 20 minutes a day: 10 minutes of new memorization and 10 of revision. Recent pages are revised every day, older pages are spread across the week. The teacher adjusts the amount every month based on what the recitation tests show.

What happens in a class?

The teacher first hears your new portion, then your revision for the day, then reads the next passage with you and corrects it until you can memorize it alone before the next class.

Every week you get a short written report: what was covered, recurring mistakes, and next week’s goal.

What comes next?

Frequently asked questions

Is it possible to memorize after 40?

Yes. Regular revision matters more than the amount of new memorization, and the program is built around that.

What if I miss a class because of work?

You can reschedule a class up to 4 hours before it starts without losing it.

Do I need to read Arabic fluently first?

You need to read correctly from the Mushaf. If you can't yet, start with the Noorani Qaida course.

Should I start with Juz ʿAmma or al-Baqarah?

Most adults start with Juz ʿAmma or Juz Tabārak because the surahs are short, but you can start with al-Baqarah if you prefer. The teacher suggests what suits you in the trial class.

What matters more: a large amount or consistency?

Consistency. Half a page a day, every day, beats two pages followed by a break.
